A Little Backstory on our Princess

Right before Rox came to a rescue group she was with a wonderful family, The House of Poodles, who helped her, loved her and did that most selfless of all acts, gave her up for rescue. This family had "rescued" her from a first family. Her new rescue home was full of doggy life..... big life...... and I mean that literally. Roxie had 4 brothers and sisters - big Poodle Dogs and a Labbradoodle who straddled her! Seems her rescue home people fell head over heals in love, but with so many dogs they were tripping over little (and big) furry feet. And so Roxie began her journey to us.
As you know it almost killed my husband AND me to have to give Roxie up. The "big children", Chase(blond boy), BJ, (black girl) and KaCee, (resident "mixed terrier")(& all over 50 pounds) are constantly looking for Roxie. They've looked out in the yard, under the furniture and out the windows and doors. Should you dare to mention Roxie's name they stand still and give you that quizzical look as they slowly turn their head as if to say "so where is she?"
This picture (above) is what Roxie did everytime we tried to take a picture of her.
Chase, the blonde and Roxie were especially close. Roxie loved to get on top of him and lick his hears clean - first one and then the other and he would just lay there and enjoy it!!
And so now I know a little bit more about the girl who will be coming to live with us. She is a picture princess who loves to have her good side photographed and get belly rubs at the same time. She has an ear fetish and is a sucker for big blond men. Too bad Bob is a bald redhead... sigh.......

A Preview of Beauty - Love on the Way

A beauty is coming in one week. Just seven days....
It's been over 7 months since Rocky the Ball King died and we buried him in the backyard in his favorite quilt with all his balls. I wonder if the future owners of our home will appreciate the pet cemetery in the yard. I suppose not. Does this fall under the 'must disclose' clause in contract when selling?
Roxie has captured the hearts of many, and will surely share her adventures with her adoring public. I have a feeling she will be a prolific writer with opinions on many subjects. I do hope she has a sense of humor, as the world sure needs some laughs. Good pee-your-pants laughs... laughs where the soda-comes-out-your-nose guffaws raise your endorphin levels.
It is exactly seven days until I drive to VA to pick her up. Such anticipation is both difficult and exalting at the same time. I seem to have lost the confidence we had with all our other babies. One might think we never held a short long dog before. Will she like us? Will she enjoy the big fenced back yard, look forward to long walkies in the woods with Bob? Will I be able to groom her wirehair coat so she looks beautiful, and do it without hurting her?
So many years ago, in summer 2002, I was surfing the net and found Rocky's picture. I couldn't stop looking at him gazing up into Patti Phillips camera, his little airplane ears laid back in the wind. What ever could have been the key? How in the world do you fall in love with a picture? But you just do, and there is nothing to be done. You must have what you see. It's a cosmic karma cyber-connection that is instant and firm.
And so the same has happened again. With the grief of Rocky's death still firmly in mind, we are letting ourselves be pulled in. But between now and the inevitable, sweet joy and laughter will burst from our home. Roxie will become as well known in our world as Rocky was.
I'm smiling in anticipation of all the smiles she will bring to others. Life is about to get good again!
